Man held with 1.2 kg of brown sugar in Baramulla

Srinagar: A drug peddler was arrested with more than a kilogramme of brown sugar in his possession in Baramulla district, police said on Tuesday.

The arrest was made in the Boniyar area of the north Kashmir district, a police spokesperson said.

Manzoor Ahmad Mir, son of Late Hafizullah Mir, a resident of Bernate in Boniyar, was intercepted Monday night with 1.20 kg of the contraband and a digital weighing machine, he said.

Meanwhile, police in Anantnag also said they have apprehended two drug peddlers and seized significant quantities of contraband substances from them.

At Bashnaar (Aishmuqam), one Muzaffer Ahmed Shah, son of Latief Shah of Hardkichloo Aishmuqam was arrested after approximately 10 Kgs, 270 grams of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.

Khayam Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Gani, resident of Batangoo, was arrested at Shohal Batangoo after seven kgs of poppy straw was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of NDPS Act have been registered for investigation in both these instances, police said.
