It was the early spring of the year 2011, when I entered the court room, for the first time. A memorable day as I took great care how to look precisely like a dapper though, much admittedly, my expressions and confidence were at the lowest. With no work on my table and all the nervousness inside me, the apprehensions, the gloom and confusion was overtaking me from inside.
Being a fresh junior, I sat, quite hesitantly, looking at court proceeding for a long clock, sitting idle. The judge noticed me. After the cases were heard, in a rather boring manner, when I proceeded to leave court room, the judge signaled me to wait. Clueless, I got nervous, but to my surprise, the judge comforted me and asked for my introduction.
It seemed that the judge had noticed that I was a nervous fresner and that wasn’t quite enjoying the proceedings. He not only comforted me with his thoughts but also maintained great decency and decorum treating me with respect irrespective of my junior status. During the course of conversation, the judge gave an account of his vast valuable experience and shared the pearls of wisdom and encouraged me through the prism of a perfect illustration which I vividly remember. It actually served as a beacon of light for me, not only in my professional life, but overall.
The judge said, a fresh lawyer is like a batsman in cricket field (i.e legal professional), all he/ she needs is to stay calm on crease (i.e court) and safeguard his wicket (confidence), rest the runs (i.e work ) will be taken care, without any hard efforts from batsman (i.e lawyer) in due course of the game through whatever means, be it runs through leg bye, wide-ball, no-ball etc. Then finally a stage will reach when the batsman will learn to play active shots.
This illustration motivated and impressed me deeply and when I left the court room, I was not all that clueless person who had earlier entered the court room in a very confused and insecure state. Now, I was feeling much motivated and confident, because I had got a lesson of life which was not relevant only in the legal profession but in everyday struggle of life.
The Judge was no other than the Esteemed Mr.Raja Mohammad Tasleem Khan, who recently left us forever very early in age! He was not only a legal stalwart but a man of etiquettes, manners, wisdom, knowledge, faith and honesty. Though he has left for heavenly abode, but he will remain alive in hearts of all those who were blessed enough to have worked with him and his teachings will continue to inspire us forever. May Almighty Allah (SWT) grant him heavenly peace- Ameen!
