Khyber Cement Champions green future with plantation drive on International Day of Forests

Srinagar: To reinforce its commitment to environmental conservation, Khyber Cement commemorated the International Day of Forests with a plantation drive at the Green Belt of Khyber Industries Pvt. Ltd.

The initiative, organised in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry, J&K, aimed to foster ecological awareness and community participation.

A group of 40 enthusiastic school children took centre stage in the event, planting saplings and embracing the ethos of environmental stewardship. Their involvement underscored the importance of youth engagement in sustainability initiatives, aligning with the broader mission of preserving green cover and combating climate change.

Riaz Tramboo, Director Operations – Khyber Cement highlighted the company’s unwavering dedication to sustainable development: “At Khyber Cement, sustainability is not just an obligation, it is a legacy we proudly uphold. The lush landscapes of Kashmir are integral to our identity, and we see it as our responsibility to contribute to their preservation. Through initiatives like this, we reinforce our environmental values and ensure that the communities we serve are actively engaged in protecting our shared natural heritage.”

The occasion was graced by distinguished guests, including Zahid Aslam Moghul, Regional Director, Kashmir, Department of Social Forestry; Dr. Mumtaz Majeed, Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry, Srinagar; Nazir Be-Nazir, Chairman, NGO; Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, DDC, Khonmoh; and Bilal Ahmad Bhat, DDC. Their presence reaffirmed the collective responsibility of government bodies, private enterprises, and civil society in fostering a greener future.
