Srinagar: Police in Awantipora solved a theft case within 24 hours by arresting an accused and recovered stolen property from him.

A police spokesperson said that on March 22, Police Station Pampore received a complaint from one Parvaiz Ahmad Wani, son of Mukhtar Ahmad Wani, of Qazigund Kakapora about the theft of JCB Excavator (JK18A-1871), parked at Petrol Pump Kadlabal Pampore.

A case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pampore and during investigation police raided multiple places and finally zeroed in on a suspect identified as Mehrajudin Thokar, son of Abdul Rahim Thokar, resident of KhaiTangan Baramulla.

Upon questioning, the accused accepted his involvement and subsequently the stolen excavator was recovered from Baramulla, he said.

The accused has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody. Further investigation is going on. The stolen property will be handed over their rightful owners after completion of legal formalities, spokesperson added.
