Srinagar: Police in Kupwara booked a “notorious” drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS).
The drug peddler Shahbaz Ahmad Khan, son of Abdul Majeed Khan of Kupwara has been booked under the PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.
He said the accused was actively involved in drug peddling, primarily targeting the youth and contributing to the spread of the drug menace in the region. Given his continued involvement in narcotics-related activities despite repeated warnings and legal actions, stringent measures were taken to curb his illicit trade, police said.
