Bijbehara: Residents of Bijbehara are calling on local authorities to take urgent measures to address worsening traffic congestion in the town’s inner lanes, particularly during peak morning and evening hours.

The heavy influx of tourist and passenger vehicles passing through these narrow roads has led to frequent traffic jams, causing significant inconvenience to locals.

“In the morning and evening, the inner lanes and the old national highway are completely jammed,” said Mohd Shafi, a local resident. “Tourist and passenger vehicles often use these routes, bringing local movement to a standstill.”

Despite multiple directives from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Bijbehara, residents say that traffic management remains ineffective. “There have been several orders from the SDM’s office, but they are not being implemented properly,” another resident complained. “We urge the administration to take immediate action and resolve this issue.”

Responding to public concerns, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tanveer Ahmad Tanveer assured that steps are being taken to ease congestion. “I will issue an order to prevent tourist and passenger vehicles from using the inner lanes of Bijbehara to ensure smoother traffic flow in both directions,” Tanveer confirmed.
