Srinagar: Casual and daily-wage workers under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Casual/Daily Wagers Forum (JKCDF) staged a protest at Lal Chowk, demanding regularization of their services and a salary hike.

As per news agency JKNS, the protesting workers announced that they would go on an indefinite strike after Eid if their demands were not met. They warned that if the government failed to address their grievances, Public Health Engineering (PHE) employees would cut water supply across Kashmir as part of their agitation.

The daily-wagers accused the government of ignoring their long-pending demands, stating that despite assurances, no concrete steps had been taken for their regularization or wage revision. They urged the authorities to resolve their issues at the earliest to prevent further disruptions.

It is important to note that the National Conference has included the regularization of temporary employees in its election manifesto, promising a time-bound policy for the regularization of various categories, including paramedical staff in GMC-associated hospitals, casual laborers, daily-wagers, CIC operators, contractual employees, Home Guards, and Rehbar-e-Khel employees.
