Training on “Computer Skill Enhancement Programme” concludes at J&K Judicial Academy

JAMMU: The two-day programme on “Computer Skill Enhancement Programme- Level I & II, Cyber laws & Appreciation & Handling of Digital Evidence and e-Courts (ECT_13_2024; ECT_14_2024; & ECT_16_2024)” held for Civil Judges of Jammu province concluded here today at J&K Judicial Academy, Janipur, Jammu.

On the second day, both sessions were conducted by Nisheeth Dixit, an Advocate from Delhi, who gave a detailed overview of the cybercrimes and relevant Cyber Laws (IT Act and BNS 2023). He said that as technology advances, so do cyber offences, including hacking, identity theft, cyber fraud and content-related offences like child pornography, xenophobia, and racism. The Information Technology Act, 2000, along with provisions in the IPC/BNS, provide the legal framework to deal with these crimes, he added.

The resource person highlighted various landmark judgements on the IT Act and shared various real-life experiences related to combating cases of cyber-crime. He also emphasised the admissibility of electronic evidence and its judicial approach. He stated that the possibilities to manipulate electronic evidence are varied and the court must take all possible precautions against possible alterations.

Anoop Sharma, Registrar Computers (IT), High Court of J&K and Ladakh, also graced the sessions.

All the sessions were interactive during which all the participants actively participated and shared their experiences and also discussed various aspects of the subject topics.

The participants also raised a number of queries which were answered satisfactorily by the resource person.

The programme was concluded with Sonia Gupta, Director, J&K Judicial Academy, presenting a vote of thanks.
