Srinagar: Police on Friday said they have arrested a person “involved in an ATM card swapping fraud” in Srinagar.
In a statement, the police said that on February 12, Police Post Bagyas received a written complaint from a one Shaheena, wife of Zahoor Ahmad Najar of Kupwara, stating that while using an ATM located within the Dental College complex in Shireen Bagh, an unknown individual inside the booth deceptively swapped her ATM card and subsequently withdrew ₹40,000 from her account.
The police spokesman said a case FIR No. 14/2025 U/S 318(4), 305 BNS was registered in Police Station Safakadal and investigation was taken up.
With the help of technical input and analysis of CCTV footage from the ATM, police zeroed in on one Burhan Rah, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Rah, resident of Bonpora, Nowgam. The accused person was subsequently arrested, and multiple ATM cards were recovered from his possession, police said.
It said further investigation is going on to ascertain the involvement of the accused person in other similar fraudulent activities. More recoveries are expected, police said.
