Srinagar, Jan 21: Multi-tier security arrangements would be put in place for the smooth conduct of the Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir, Inspector General of Police V K Birdi said here on Tuesday.

The main Republic Day function will take place in Jammu which will be presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as the chief guest.

In the Kashmir valley, the main event is scheduled at Bakshi Stadium here where deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary will preside over the function.

“Well a multi-tiered security has been established throughout Kashmir as part of the strenuous preparations for the 76th Republic Day to ensure the attendees reach the venues without any hitch and enjoy function to the fullest,” IGP Kashmir told reporters here.

In order to ensure the day passes peacefully, the IGP said that security has been bolstered throughout Kashmir, with checkpoints set up at strategic locations and deployment of additional forces.
