8 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested eight drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession, an official handout informed Tuesday.

It said at Furrah, Kulgam, one Shahid Mushtaq Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, resident of Furrah, was arrested and 1.30 Kg of grinded cannabis was recovered from his possession.

In Srinagar, during a routine checking at Syed Mansoor bridge Zaldagar, police stopped an auto-rickshaw (JK01H-9826), and arrested two individuals on board it — Waseem Bashir Sheikh (driver), son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, and Uzma Wasim (passenger), wife of Waseem Bashir Sheikh, both residents of Hamdania Colony Bemina – after a substantial quantity of narcotic substances was recovered from their possession.

Police said during investigations, it came to fore that the married couple used their rickshaw and family cover to deceive authorities while selling narcotics among the youth.

At Sazgaripora, one Waseem Ahmad Bafanda, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Dangerpora Mallabagh Hazratbal, was arrested with contraband substance and cash of ₹3,020, police said.

Two more individuals — Waqar Ahmad Duloo alias Koter, son of Late Mohammad Rafiq Duloo of Govt Housing Colony Ellahi Bagh Srinagar, and Mohammad Rafiq Pattoo, son of Ali Mohammad Pattoo of Shah Mohalla Ahmad Nagar, were arrested with contraband substances.

At Benhama Lar, one Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Jabar Mir of Benhama Lar, was arrested after 3.81Kgs of ‘Bhang Patri’ and 32 grams of cannabis was recovered from their possession.

In Pulwama, police intercepted a Sumo cab (JK13B-0980), driven by Hilal Ahmed Wani, son of Sonaullah Wani of Zadoora. During the search, 12.650 kgs of cannabis powder was recovered, following which the cab driver was arrested and the vehicle seized.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been taken up, police said.
