6 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers across Kashmir valley and recovered contraband substances from their possession, an official handout informed Saturday.

It said in Srinagar, at Lawaypora-Mujgund Axis 22 grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of Mohammad Yaseen Bhat alias Shaka, son of Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, resident of Astan Mohalla Gundhasibhat. Bhat was arrested on the spot.

At Sazgaripora, one Waseem Ahmad Bafanda, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Dangerpora Malbagh Hazratbal, was arrested and four grams of heroin and cash ₹ 3020 was recovered from his possession.

At Adipora crossing in Sopore, one Owais Bashir Shakari of Sher-Colony, Sopore was arrested and 5.10 grams of a brown sugar-like contraband substance was recovered from him.

In Awantipora, police arrested one Aqib Qadir Sofi, son of Ghulam Qadir Sofi of Gang Tral after one kg of powdered cannabis was recovered from his possession.

At Bela Crossing Boniyar, one Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Tariq Ahmad, resident of Hundi Nowshera was arrested and 50 grams of a cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. During questioning, he disclosed that he had procured the contraband from a woman identified as Shameema Begum, wife of Mohammad Maqbool Sheikh, resident of Lari Kasi Boniyar, following which police searched the residential house of the said woman, and recovered 62 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance and 1 kg of cannabis powder.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
