Gulmarg: In a significant step towards improving safety on the slopes, the Assistant Director of Tourism, Gulmarg, has issued a directive prohibiting sledging activities on designated ski slopes.
The order, issued under the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism department, aims to enhance the safety and smooth experience of skiing in the region.
The newly issued directive highlights the potential dangers posed by sledging on ski slopes, particularly for skiers, including children and those undergoing skiing lessons. The presence of sledges on these slopes can lead to confusion, disrupt the flow of skiing activities, and significantly increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
To mitigate these risks, the authorities have mandated that sledging activities be confined to specific tracks designated for the purpose, away from the primary ski slopes. This segregation is considered crucial in safeguarding both skiers and sledging enthusiasts while ensuring that winter sports can proceed smoothly without incident.
The order calls for strict compliance by all stakeholders, including ski operators, tourists, and the general public. It also warns that failure to adhere to the directive will result in legal action under applicable laws. The Ski Patrol Team and other relevant authorities have been assigned the responsibility of enforcing the order, as well as directing sledging enthusiasts to the designated sledging tracks.
This prohibition has been put in place in the interest of public safety and to promote the seamless conduct of winter sports activities in Gulmarg.
Copies of the order have been sent to key officials, including the District Development Commissioner of Baramulla, the Director of Tourism Kashmir, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority, and others for immediate action and compliance.
