Srinagar: Police in Srinagar have arrested two accused persons involved in theft and recovered stolen property from their possession, police said in an official handout Monday.

It said acting on a complaint of theft in Chandpora, Harwan during the night of 18/19 November, 2024, police with the help of CCTV footage and technical evidence, rounded up some suspects.

Police said one suspect — Umar Shafi Dar, resident of Ghat, Shalimar, during questioning, after monitoring the CCTV footage, disclosed the identity of the accused as Adil Shabir Khan, son of Shabir Ahmad Khan of Kumar Mohalla, Ishber Nishat, following which the accused was arrested.

On his disclosure, another accused — Muhammad Maqbool Dar, son of Abdul Karim, resident of Sethargund, Pulwama (who is a goldsmith running his shop under the trade name Al-Maqbool Jewellers at Bakal Complex, near Fire Service, Samboora Road Kakapora, Pulwama) was arrested. From his possession, gold items weighing around 84.02 grams, worth Rs 5,71,000 were recovered, police said.
