Commissioner SMC reviews Republic Day 2025 preparations

SRINAGAR: Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr Owais Ahmed, Friday chaired a high-level meeting at the SMC Central Office, Karan Nagar to review the preparations for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the corporation and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) to ensure seamless coordination and meticulous planning for the event.

Dr Owais issued detailed instructions to all departments to ensure that the city reflects the spirit of the occasion. He directed the Electric Wing to repair all non-functional streetlights and enhance city illumination, focusing on key locations. He also emphasized decorating electricity Poles of flyovers with tricolour lighting and festive embellishments to foster a patriotic ambience.

Highlighting the significance of maintaining a pristine environment, the Commissioner instructed the Sanitation Wing to intensify citywide cleanliness drives. Special attention was directed towards prominent locations and event venues.

With snowfall anticipated, Dr Owais directed the Mechanical Engineering and Transport wing to keep snow-clearance machinery and personnel on standby. Priority will be given to the main event venue and its adjoining areas to ensure smooth movement.

The City Drainage Circle SMC was tasked with ensuring the functionality of all dewatering pumps and deploying mobile units at strategic locations to address any waterlogging issues that may arise.

Dr Owais reaffirmed SMC’s commitment to making this Republic Day a memorable celebration for the people of Srinagar, underscoring the importance of teamwork and timely execution of all planned activities.

“The Republic Day celebration is not just an event but a reflection of our unity and pride as a Nation. Let us work collectively to make it grand and unforgettable,” he said.

The SMC, in collaboration with SSCL, is dedicated to creating an environment of patriotism and festivity across Srinagar for this important occasion.
