Kulgam, Dec 26: The KMD Association Kulgam is set to expand its services by introducing new routes to Verinag and Pahalgam for the first time, along with other destinations, according to Yasir Manzoor, Manager of KMD Kulgam.

Yasir Manzoor stated that KMDA has initiated this winter service to address the transportation challenges faced by people in certain areas. “We have introduced new routes, including Kund, Lammer, Nandimarg, and Malwan. Additionally, we will soon start services for Frisal and Kujur, while new routes from Kulgam to Akhal and Qazigund are also being launched,” he said.

“For the first time, we will provide direct services from Kulgam to Verinag and Pahalgam, offering much-needed connectivity for people travelling to these tourist and health-friendly destinations,” he added. The initiative aims to benefit residents of remote areas and facilitate their travel to key locations during both winter and summer seasons.

Manzoor further elaborated on KMDA’s historic legacy, noting that the Kulgam branch was established in 1932 and named by the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. “This is the oldest branch in South Kashmir, with a mission to provide quality transport services across the region,” he said.

The Manager also revealed plans to add 40 new buses to the depot in the coming days to strengthen the transport network. “We are committed to establishing a robust traffic system in Kulgam, including introducing non-stop buses to Rajouri, Gul Gulabgarh, and Nandimarg,” he added.

Yasir expressed gratitude to Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for implementing a liberal transport policy in 2022, which enabled the modernization of KMD services. “This policy allowed us to replace old vehicles with high-quality, non-polluting, and comfortable buses, enhancing passenger safety and comfort,” he noted.

In addition to transport services, KMDA is also working on initiatives to support handicraft workers and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. “We are planning to issue green cards for students from poor families and ensure that Kulgam remains the first district where buses are available as late as 7:30 PM,” he concluded.
