Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal Sunday urged the government of India to reinstate the constitutional guarantees to Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement released from the party’s provincial headquarters, Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in Jammu, Kamal said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have shown their unwavering support for Omar Abdullah by electing him to lead the government in the region. “It is now imperative for New Delhi to fulfill the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the restoration of statehood,” he said.

Kamal praised the Omar Abdullah-led cabinet for passing a resolution in this regard and presenting it to the prime minister. He emphasized that the responsibility now lies with New Delhi to honor the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and fulfill its commitments.

“The ball is in the court of New Delhi. The people of J&K have done their part, and the cabinet has echoed their desires. It is time for Delhi to show respect for these aspirations and deliver on its promises,” Kamal asserted.

Kamal praised the government led by Omar Abdullah for its proactive initiatives, stating that the resolution passed in the J&K Assembly against the measures of August 5th, 2019, truly reflects the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He emphasized that New Delhi must recognize the clear message being sent and restore the constitutional guarantees to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “We are not asking for anything new; we simply want what was promised to us. These guarantees were solemn promises made by New Delhi to our people and must be upheld. It is imperative that these guarantees are reinstated without further delay.”
