Srinagar: Police have arrested eight drug peddlers in several districts of Kashmir valley and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson informed that a vehicle (JK05M-8404) with three persons onboard was intercepted at Railway Crossing Pattan. Identified as Jhon Mohammad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir; and Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, son of Late Abdul Aziz, both residents of Nillah Palpora, and Faisal Ahmad Hajam, son of Ghulam Qadir, resident of Pushwari Anantnag, the three persons were arrested after 78 grams of contraband cannabis powder was recovered from their possession. The vehicle was also seized.
At Cement Bridge Baramulla, one Ikhlas Noor, son of Noor Din Khan of Baghi Rehmat Sopore, was arrested and 40 strips of banned tablets recovered from his possession.
During naka checking near Higher Secondary School Kalaroos, one Javid Ahmed Lone, son of Abdul Khaliq Lone, of Lashtiyal Kalaroos, was arrested after his search yielded four grams of a brown sugar-like substance.
Police raided a house in Larkipora, Awantipora and recovered 20.500 kgs of cannabis-like substance from the residential house belonging to one Fareeda Akhter.
In Pulwama, near Arihal crossing, two persons — Nisar Ahmad Rather, son of Gulzar Ahmad Rather of Kanjipora Lajoora, and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat of Malangpora Pulwama – were arrested after 82 grams of brown-sugar like substance was recovered from them.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
