Gulmarg receives fresh snowfall; MeT predicts light rains, snow over higher reaches in Kashmir

Srinagar: Srinagar’s Meteorological Centre on Sunday predicted light rains and snow over few higher reaches in Kashmir division today during late evening of December 8 and December 9 morning while as Gulmarg received fresh spell of snow Sunday afterneen.

From December 8-9, there is a possibility of generally cloudy weather conditions with light rains over few areas of plains and hilly areas of Jammu division; and light rains and snow on few higher reaches of Kashmir division during late evening of December 8 and December 9 morning, the officials said.

They said from December 10-11 the weather conditions are likely to remain dry.

On December 12, it will be generally cloudy with light snow over isolated higher reaches, the officials said, and added from December 13-17 there will be dry weather conditions likely.

They advised tourists, travelers and transporters to follow traffic advisories from administration and traffic department.

Meanwhile, fresh snowfall in the tourist resort of Gulmarg on Sunday brought cheers to Kashmir’s tourism stakeholders.

The Gulmarg bowl, as it is popularly known, witnessed snowfall in the afternoon. The snowfall was going on when the last report was received, officials said.

They said two to three inches of snow had accumulated, according to the latest report.

Snowfall was also recorded in several areas, including the Kupwara and the Baramulla districts of north Kashmir, the officials said.

The snowfall brightened the hopes of better winter tourism in Kashmir, which witnessed a relatively dry winter last year.
