‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’: Sakeena Itoo distributes motorized tricycles among individuals with disabilities at Jammu

JAMMU: On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemorated at Convention Centre, here, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo distributed 10 motorized tricycles (scooties) to individuals with disabilities as well as cheques of Rs 50,000 to Scheduled Caste (SC) beneficiaries under the Income Generation Component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme.

Principal Secretary, School Education, Suresh Kumar Gupta; Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare, Sheetal Nanda; Director Social Welfare Jammu, DSWOs and other officers were also present on the occasion.

Interacting with the beneficiaries on the occasion, Sakeena Itoo highlighted that these motorised tricycles will enhance mobility as well as make them self dependent . She added that these tricycles will enable recipients to navigate daily life with greater ease and engage more actively in society.

“Today, we renew our commitment to creating an inclusive society where every individual, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive,” Sakeena said, while underscoring the significance of such initiatives.

She also engaged with beneficiaries who received cheques of Rs 50,000 on the occasion.

The beneficiaries, while interacting with the Minister, informed her that they also received training in various trades to promote financial independence and improve their living standards under this Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
