Jammu/ Srinagar: Four drug peddlers were arrested in Reasi district on Tuesday and heroin was recovered from them, officials said.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a vehicle at Sula Naka area during its journey from Katra, they said.
The officials said that upon thorough checking of the vehicle, heroin was recovered from the occupants — Anil Sharma, Shubham Singh, Vivek Raina and Kamal Kumar.
All the accused are residents of Reasi, they said, adding that a case has been registered against them.
Further investigation is underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the arrested individuals, the officials said.
Meanwhile, two drug peddlers were arrested in Soura area of Srinagar and contraband was recovered from their possessions, police said.
The alleged drug peddlers were arrested after police found brown sugar from their respective vehicles during naka checking in the Soura area, a police spokesman said.
During the search of a car, 10 grams of ‘brown sugar’ were recovered from the vehicle driven by one Shabir Ahmed Mir, son of Ghulam Qadir a resident of Bilal Colony Soura, he said. Six grams of brown sugar was recovered from the possession of Shah Murtaza Iqbal, Mohd Iqbal Shah, also a resident of Bilal Colony, Soura, police said.
Both persons were arrested and their vehicles seized while a case has been registered for investigation.
During questioning, police said, it came to fore that both the accused individuals are chronic drug peddlers and are actively involved in selling illegal drugs among the youth, police said.
Two more drug peddlers were arrested in Anantnag. Gulzar Ahmad Rather, son of Mohammad Ayoub Rather, a resident of Sirhama, was held with approximately three kilograms of cannabis powder, and Gulzar Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Rasool Rather of Waghama, Bijbehara, was arrested after 3.350 kilograms of cannabis was recovered from his possession.
