Anantnag: In a significant milestone for peripheral healthcare, the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Seer Hamadan successfully managed a complex dental emergency under general anaesthesia, marking a first for the region.
The case involved a six-year-old girl who was brought to the hospital with severe facial swelling on the left side, fever, and breathing difficulties, following a tooth extraction at a private clinic two days earlier. Recognizing the gravity of her condition, the hospital’s multidisciplinary team, led by Medical Superintendent Dr. Iftikar Bakshi, swiftly stepped into action. The team included Consultant ENT Dr. Sheikh Rafiq, Consultant Anaesthesia Dr. Hamid, and Dental Surgeon Dr. Bilal Beig.
After thorough investigations and evaluation, the team decided to perform surgery under general anaesthesia. The procedure involved removing the infected tooth and performing submandibular drainage to alleviate the swelling and infection.
The surgery was completed successfully, and the patient is currently recovering well under observation in the hospital ward.
“This pioneering effort demonstrates the growing capabilities of peripheral healthcare facilities in Anantnag to handle advanced medical and dental emergencies,” said Dr. Bakshi.
The successful management of this case underscores SDH Seer Hamadan’s commitment to delivering comprehensive patient care and highlights the potential for enhancing healthcare services in rural setups.
