Archives Deptt facilitates visit of specially-abled children to Dogra Art Museum

JAMMU: Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, J&K, while celebrating World Heritage Week (19-25, Nov. 2024), facilitated the visit of specially abled children from School for Hearing Handicapped J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra to Dogra Art Museum, Jammu. The initiative taken up by the Department was aimed to offer the children a unique cultural experience.

Throughout the day, the children participated in tailored tours to the Bahu Fort and Archival Exhibition, Kala Kendra, Jammu before visiting the Dogra Art Museum, wherein they were briefed about the history and significance attached to Bahu Fort. The students were also shown rare Archival Documents in the Exhibition and they evinced keen interest while visiting the Exhibition. This visit was a wonderful opportunity to inspire young minds and foster a deeper appreciation for our culture. Guided by the experienced staff, the children explored various exhibits that were showcased. The event aimed to provide an enriching educational experience.

The visit was organized on the directions of Kuldeep Krishan Sidha, Director, Archives, Archaeology & Museums, J&K, who was keen to provide equal learning opportunities to these specially abled children.

The Museum also provided friendly spaces and resources to support the various needs of the Hearing and speech-impaired children, ensuring that each child could enjoy their visit to the fullest.

The students were accompanied by Roshan Bhan, the School Principal and other Teachers/Interpreters of the institution. It was the first of its kind educational initiative, wherein interpreters explained the significance of heritage and culture to the students by using sign language.

The principal appreciated the steps being taken by the Department and requested to facilitate more such visits in future also. Apart from this, Members from the Ex-Serviceman fraternity and students from Cluster University Jammu also visited the Dogra Art Museum, Jammu and participated in the World Heritage Week celebrations.

The event was conducted and coordinated by Mukul Magotra, Curator, Dogra Art Museum, Jammu.
