A R Rather likely to become J&K Assembly speaker

Srinagar: Senior National Conference leader and MLA Charar-e-Sharif, Abdul Rahim Rather is likely to be appointed as the new speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative assembly.

Sources said that the former finance minister and seven-time MLA will be appointed as the speaker of the legislative assembly.

Rather, who brings extensive experience, has also served as opposition leader during the PDP-Congress coalition between January 2015 and June 2018.

NC had won 42 seats in the first election in a decade in Jammu and Kashmir.

NC leader, Mubarak Gul, who served as speaker during the NC-PDP coalition government, was sworn in as Pro-tem Speaker by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on October 19.
