Kulgam: In a determined effort to bolster road safety, the Traffic Police Department in Kulgam initiated a special drive today against helmetless riding and reckless driving practices, primarily targeting motorcyclists.

Spearheaded by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Traffic in Qazigund, officers set up a checkpoint at Nowyug Qazigund, focusing on violators engaged in risky behavior, including riding without helmets and triple riding.

The drive resulted in the seizure of multiple motorcycles and the issuance of challans for numerous traffic violations, reinforcing the department’s commitment to road safety. Commenting on the initiative, the DySP Traffic emphasized the department’s focus on safeguarding young riders, whose safety, he noted, remains paramount. “Our youth’s lives are invaluable. We urge all motorcyclists to wear helmets, avoid triple riding, and prioritize responsible driving to prevent tragic accidents,” he said.

In addition to enforcement, the police launched an awareness campaign to educate young riders on the lifesaving importance of wearing helmets. Authorities noted that while strict penalties would apply to offenders, the broader aim is to cultivate a culture of safety and responsibility among motorcyclists.

The operation is set to continue in the coming days, with law enforcement reiterating that road safety is a collective responsibility. By promoting adherence to traffic regulations, authorities hope to reduce preventable accidents and enhance community safety on Kulgam’s roads.
