SRINAGAR: The Director of Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, today kicked off the sale of onion seedlings at Kitchen Garden Lalmandi Srinagar.
During interaction with farmers and kitchen garden lovers, the Director said that the Department is vigorously pursuing a strategy to attract more farmers and kitchen garden lovers to the vegetable sector. “Today, in the first phase, we are distributing 4 lakh onion seedlings among the farmers,” he added.
The director said that the department is producing seedlings of different vegetable crops in hi-tech polyhouses under controlled conditions in all the districts of the Kashmir division. The seedlings will be distributed among the farming community of the region in a phased manner so that the produce reaches the market in a way that could fetch the farmer the maximum possible returns.
Chowdhary Iqbal said the department is producing vegetable seedlings in consonance with the market demand for the produce.
He expressed satisfaction and said that the Department is working to ensure that maximum area could be brought under different crops during Rabi season. He said to link the produce with the market chain and to maintain its connectivity, the department has already formulated a strategy so that the farmers’ interests could be served and secured.
