Quoting Chief Electoral Officer J&K, Pandurang K Pole, the news agency NVI reported that all necessary preparations have been completed to facilitate a secure and smooth counting of votes on October 8.

“All measures have been put in place for the counting of votes on October 8. A strong three-tier security framework will be deployed to ensure smooth operations and public safety during the counting process,” CEO Pole said.

Notably this election was particularly significant for Jammu and Kashmir for being the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and the first Assembly election in more than a decade. The polling took place in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1.

The voter turnout for all three phases was recorded at 63.88 percent, with male voters accounting for 64.68 percent and female voters at 63.04 percent.

As the much-anticipated counting day approaches, officials are making every effort to guarantee an efficient and secure process.

Election officials outlined the careful planning that has gone into setting up the counting centers in various constituencies across Jammu and Kashmir.

“All necessary arrangements for the counting process have been finalized. Counting halls have been prepared for each constituency, with adequate tables to facilitate the round-wise counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), ensuring a seamless flow during the counting,” officials added.

They also highlighted that the randomization of counting staff is nearly complete — an essential step to ensure fairness in the vote count. “This randomization process is vital for maintaining impartiality, and we are almost done with it. Our teams are fully prepared for the upcoming task,” they said.

To create a smooth experience on counting day, vital infrastructure and safety measures are being implemented. “Essential facilities such as washrooms and drinking water will be accessible to all participants. Additionally, fire safety precautions have been taken, and medical personnel will be on standby for any emergencies,” officials noted.
