With the counting date set for October 8, the political landscape of the region hangs in the balance, as exit polls suggest a competitive race among the leading parties.

While predictions indicate a hung assembly, the National Conference, Congress, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are expected to form a coalition government.

This potential partnership raises questions about governance and the ability of these parties to collaboratively address the pressing issues facing the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

As the dust settles post-election, the focus shifts to the expectations of the electorate, the people have great number of hopes, greater perhaps than all the previous times post independence.

Leaders from the coalition parties have made grand promises to deliver on the needs and aspirations of the people. They have perhaps gone beyond their scope in making those promises.

The critical question remains: can they transform these promises, or some of the promises into tangible workable actions which turn into tangible results.

The citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, who have endured years of socio-economic challenges, they have suffered on almost on accounts and by all counts. They are are eager to see real change, the change to ease out the pathetic congratulations of their life.

The coalition’s ability to fulfill its commitments will be closely scrutinized, as the public hopes for a departure from mere rhetoric and a move towards practical solutions that alleviate their hardships.

The upcoming days will be pivotal in determining whether the coalition can rise above political maneuvering and truly serve the interests of the people. The test will start from the very first day.

The region’s history is marked by political instability on account of unmet promises, leading to skepticism among voters. This the situation is not different, there are hopes and promises and there is that scepticism.

As the coalition leaders prepare to take office, they must prioritize transparency, accountability, and effective governance to rebuild trust. There must be no laxity there this time.

The people of Jammu and Kashmir are not just looking for JUMLAS—empty promises—but they want and demand action, real sincere action.   They need sincere, genuine leadership that can heal the wounds of people inflicted in the past and foster a brighter, more prosperous future for all.

The success of this coalition will ultimately depend on their ability to unite and deliver on their pledges, ensuring that the voices of the citizens resonate in the corridors of power.

These are testing times for the coalition partners to shun their differences and unite for a grand purpose.

They have committed great and unforgivable political blunders in the past. But life demands some reconciliation, some forgiving and some forgetting at least.

So is the case with these political parties, people have accorded some forgiveness and seem to have made that reconciliation. They have reposes their trust in them.

Now, the time is for them deliver, to heal the wounds of the people and provide an impeccable model of governance while forgetting their own differences.

They have to show they can, as they can.
