Union Minister Giriraj Singh hands over certificate of GI tag for Pashmina wool to LG Ladakh

Leh: Union Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh today handed over the certificate of Geographical indication (GI) registration of Pashmina wool to the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Dr. B. D. Mishra at Raj Niwas Leh.

LG handed over the application for registration of authorized users of Pashmina wool to the Union Minister.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister highlighted the commitment of government to achieve new standards of development in the Union Territory. He said that the government has undertaken numerous projects and initiatives for the welfare of the people in the entire Ladakh region.

He said that GI tag of Pashmina wool is going to maintain the standards of authenticity, adding that this step will be beneficial for the people associated with this field. Additionally, he highlighted that the government aims to reach a target of 500,000 Pashmina goats and 1 million Merino sheep in the Union Territory by 2030.

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Prajakta Verma, Secretary Textile Committee, Kartikay Dhanda, advisor to LG, Dr. Pawan Kotwal and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
