Prime Minister’s words resonate deeply: “Education is not merely a path to acquiring knowledge; it is a powerful tool for transforming the world.” Our teachers are the architects of this transformation, shaping India into not just a repository of knowledge but a global beacon of hope and wisdom. As we recently celebrated Teacher’s Day, it serves as a moving tribute to the unwavering dedication and selfless service of educators throughout their careers.

Teacher’s Day provides an opportunity for students to convey their heartfelt appreciation, admiration, and respect to those who have guided and inspired them to become exemplary citizens. This occasion not only acknowledges the profound impact teachers have on society but also underscores the crucial role of education in fortifying our nation. As India advances towards its vision of becoming a global leader in education, the teaching profession remains a cornerstone of this ambition, driving the country closer to reclaiming its historic legacy as a center of learning and wisdom.

India’s educational legacy is deeply entwined with its cultural roots, reflecting a tradition where teachers are revered as divine creators, akin to Brahma, the cosmic architect in Hindu thought. The ancient guru-shishya (teacher-student) bond, established in the revered gurukuls, emphasized the comprehensive development of students. Gurus were honored with a status surpassing even that of emperors. Historical institutions such as Nalanda and Takshashila stand as some of the earliest global centers of learning, while timeless texts like the Vedas and Upanishads have long served as wellsprings of wisdom for the world.

As India seeks to reestablish itself as a global powerhouse in knowledge, the role of teachers becomes increasingly pivotal. Positioned at the heart of this transformation, educators are essential to this journey. Now is the perfect moment for India’s youth to consider a career in teaching; by investing in and addressing the challenges faced by this profession, India can lay a robust foundation for a future where it excels not only in power but in wisdom and intellect.

Teachers are the true architects of India’s future, inspiring curiosity, fostering critical thinking, and instilling core values in the next generation of global leaders. Prime Minister Modi’s vision of India as a global leader extends beyond mere economic or technological progress; it encompasses the creation of a society that values knowledge, wisdom, and ethical principles. As India progresses towards its aspiration of becoming a Vishwa Guru, the teaching profession will play a central role in realizing this ambitious vision.

Teachers, as the guiding lights of knowledge, are central to India’s quest to establish itself as a Vishwa Guru. This ambition is closely linked to the evolution of the country’s education system, with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marking a pivotal advancement. The NEP 2020 aims to enhance teacher education and professional growth while fostering a supportive environment for both teaching and learning. As India progresses towards its goal of becoming a global beacon of wisdom, empowering teachers remains a fundamental and transformative component of this journey.

The New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 champions a flexible and multidisciplinary approach to education, with a significant emphasis on advancing teachers’ professional development.

To realize its ambition of becoming a Vishwa Guru, India must prioritize investment in its teachers, who are the architects of the nation’s future, guided by their steadfast commitment and dedication.

The NCTE is crucial in equipping teachers with the essential resources, training, and support to thrive in their roles. Its flagship programs are vital in enhancing the societal status of teachers by providing them with the necessary tools and professional development. As India moves towards its goal of shaping the world’s future, the commitment to ongoing learning and adaptation by teachers, supported by the NCTE, ensures they are prepared to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.
