Srinagar: Taking a dig at the traditional parties like NC and PDP, Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said on Friday that “these parties have always falsely labeled their political opponents as ‘proxies’ of the centre or the ruling parties, merely to defame them.”

He added, “They overlook the fact that their leaders have been Delhi’s true proxies since 1947.”

Apni Party leader made these remarks today while talking to media reporters, during his public outreach campaign in Chanapora constituency. He was responding to a question about NC leader Omar Abdullah’s accusation against AIP leader Engineer Rashid, who is on interim bail.

He said, “Every leader or party that opposes traditional parties like the NC and PDP is accused of being a proxy of New Delhi. Someone should remind the NC that it was their leadership that handed Kashmir over to Delhi, and that too without seeking the consent of the people.”

“Even the PDP, when established in 1989, was believed to have the patronage of then Minister of Home Affairs L.K. Advani. It was often referred to as Advani’s party,” he added.

Reiterating his commitments, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said that “Apni Party, if elected to power, is committed to release the detainees and announce a general amnesty for the youth facing charges.”

Responding to a question, he said, “I believe that the government being formed as a result of these elections is expected to engage with New Delhi to ensure that the fundamental and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are restored. The news government is supposed to talk with the centre ensuring the redressal of the pressing issues, including the repeal of draconian laws such as POTA and PSA, the release of prisoners, issuance of the police verification reports to job aspirants and passport seekers, and the full restoration of constitutional rights.”
