Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Srinagar and Pulwama and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Sunday.

He said in Srinagar, police intercepted a car (UK14TA-1714) at Sozeith Bund. Three persons on board the car who tried to flee from the spot were apprehended. During the search, 6.55 grams of brown sugar and 2.1 Kgs of grinded cannabis were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Sheikh, son of late Gulzar Ahmad of Lawaypora; Rafiq Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Amin Mir, and Shahid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Akbar Sheikh, both residents of Panzinara. They have been arrested and shifted to Shalteng police station.

In Pulwama, a vehicle (JK13A-4513) with two persons on board was intercepted at Gudoora Bridge. During checking, 70 bottles of liquor were recovered from their possession. Identified as Nazir Ahmad Thoker, son of Ghulam Nabi Thoker, resident of Gudoora Pulwama; and Awtar Ghoslay, son of Santa Ram Ghoslay, resident of Akhola, Maharashtra, both persons were arrested and vehicle seized.

Police Post Sangam also intercepted a bike (PB08C-2618) at Panjpora Astanpora and recovered 13 bottles of illicit liquor from the possession of the rider Mohammad Abbas Khan, son of Ghulam Qadir Khan of Dadoo Marhama.

Notorious “liquor seller” Mubarak Ahmad Wagay (alias Muhammad Rajab Wagay) was arrested at Khanabal Chowk after 65 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from his vehicle (JK03C-4239).

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
