DEO Shopian meets representatives of Political Parties

SHOPIAN: The District Election Officer (DEO) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb today convened a meeting with representatives of various political parties to discuss the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and other applicable guidelines of the Election Commission of India, in view of the upcoming General Elections to Legislative Assembly-2024.

During the meeting, the DEO asked for the effective cooperation of political parties for the smooth conduct of elections and emphasized the importance of seeking prior permission for election campaigning, rallies, and advertisements.

He stressed the significance of adhering to the Model Code of Conduct, crucial for ensuring free and fair elections and outlined the role and responsibilities of political parties and candidates in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

The representatives were also briefed on the comprehensive measures being put in place to ensure the transparency and efficiency of the electoral process. These measures include stringent monitoring of campaign expenditures and the use of advanced technological tools like cVIGIL, Suvidha and NCORE, which are provided by the Election Commission of India to enhance real-time monitoring and facilitate swift action in case of any violations.

The discussion also covered logistical arrangements, voter education, and measures to prevent electoral malpractice.

Representatives from the political parties also presented various suggestions which were acknowledged.

The meeting was attended by Nodal Officer MCC, ROs, AROs, Dy. DEO, Election staff alongside representatives of various political parties.
