Div Com Kashmir finalizes arrangements for Annual Mela Kheer Bhawani

Srinagar: Almost five lakh pilgrims have visited the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas this year so far, which is a new record, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said on Wednesday.

The annual Yatra, according to the Div Com Kashmir, is not only religiously and spiritually significant but has a major economic impact on Jammu and Kashmir as well, as the devotees promote J&K on national and international levels after returning as “brand ambassadors” for Kashmir.

“This year’s Yatra is about to touch the five lakh mark. The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve all credit for creating such a welcoming atmosphere in the valley through their unwavering support to make Amarnath Yatra a success,” Bidhuri told reporters here.

The arrangements made by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) were excellent and far superior to those made the last year, Div Com said, adding, “as per the feedback we received, the proportion of devotees this year surpassed the previous high.”

The high proportion of devotees who make the annual trek to the cave shrine, according to the Div Com, not only boosts the economy but also promotes tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Regarding the preparations for Independence Day celebrations in Kashmir, he said ‘befitting’ arrangements are underway and the administration would ensure everything goes well.

“Independence Day, August 15, is a significant occasion for all of us. Appropriate preparations are underway, and the event will take place at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar as usual. I want to be clear that there would be no restrictions and everyone is welcome to participate in the celebrations at Bakshi Stadium. All you have to do is carry your identity cards to attend the event,” he said.
