Speaking on the occasion, the Mission Director said that J&K has one psychiatrist for every 2 lakh population mostly available in the Medical College Hospitals of Jammu & Srinagar. Since in most of the district hospitals we have hardly any psychiatrist posted and to address this issue and take the mental health services to the district and sub-district level J&K Health & Medical Education Department, in collaboration with NIMHANS Bengaluru took an initiative for training the in-service Medical Officers in Community Mental Health through online mode. In this regard, an MoU was signed on 5th July 2023 between NIMHANS Bengaluru and National Health Mission J&K.

Nazim Zai, while complimenting the doctors, emphasized that their knowledge, skills and compassion will continue to serve as beacons of hope for those in need of mental health support.

Pertinently, 25 Medical Officers have successfully completed the course who have been deployed by the concerned Directorate of Health Services at district level for implementation of DMHP and addiction treatment services in various health institutions.

Director Health Services Kashmir also congratulated the Medical Officers for successful completion of their training.

Others present on the occasion included Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar, Dr Mushataq Ahmad Dar, Programme Manager, District Mental Health Programme, NHM, J&K and Dr Aadil Bashir, Associate Programme Manager, NHM, J&K.
