“Despite enduring relentless persecution for over three decades, Begum Akbar Jehan remained steadfast in her mission, achieving remarkable milestones in women and child welfare, as well as the socio-economic and political empowerment of the Gujjars and Bakarwal tribes. Her unwavering dedication to uplifting the marginalized communities exemplified her as a beacon of hope in a male-dominated political landscape,” they said.

“Her visionary approach to women’s emancipation and their pivotal role in the 21st century was revolutionary, challenging societal norms and advocating for gender equality. Even in the face of adversity, she remained resolute in her belief in a higher power, which fueled her tireless efforts to alleviate poverty and illiteracy among the disenfranchised,” they added.

Hailing Begum Sahiba, the party leaders said that as the head of the Red Cross society, she spearheaded relief efforts for displaced individuals and facilitated the repatriation of thousands of women affected by the turmoil of 1947. “Her establishment of the Markaz-e-Behboodi Khawateen continues to empower women through skill training in various fields, serving as a pillar of support and security for them. Madre Meharban’s legacy transcends political boundaries, earning her admiration and respect from all corners of society. Her unwavering faith and dedication to serving the underprivileged serve as a testament to her indomitable spirit and enduring impact on the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” they said.
