NC workers from Eidgah block stage protest against Mubarak Gul

Srinagar: With National Conference (NC) gearing up for the assembly elections in J&K, party workers from the Eidgah constituency today urged the leadership to consider a mandate for an honest candidate, calling the senior party leader and former Speaker Mubarak Gul as “incompetent and self-seeking”.

The agitated NC workers congregated at party headquarters Nawa-i-Subh here this evening, and staged a protest against the former legislator Mubarak Gul, who represents the Eidgah area. They alleged that Gul has done nothing for the people of the Eidgah constituency except for ensuring privileges to his family and relatives.

They vowed to break away from the NC and support another party in case Gul is once again fielded by the party.

“Even though we have invested our blood and sweat into NC, Mubarak Gul has never been of any help to the area. How could we support a politician who only focuses on giving his family and relatives and abandons those having stuck with the party through thick and thin?” they asked.

Later party general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani held talks with the disgruntled party workers from the Eidgah constituency, and assured them that the NC president and vice-president will be notified about their grievances.

“Your grievances will be taken care of, we promise. Whatever complaints you have with Mr. Gul will be brought to the notice of the party president and vice-president for a better solution,” they assured.

The disgruntled workers alleged that Mubarak Gul is a “self-centered, inept politician, who doesn’t really care about the party’s or his supporters’ interests”.

“We are firmly requesting that Gul be not given a mandate to run for the party’s seat in the Eidgah assembly constituency. In case he is forced upon us once more, we will have no other option than to quit the party and back someone else in the elections,” they threatened.
