Principal Secretary APD reviews functioning of Agriculture Department

SRINAGAR: Principal Secretary of Agriculture Production Department (APD), Shailendra Kumar, today chaired a meeting of concerned officers to review the functioning of the Enforcement Wing of the Agriculture Department.

While addressing the meeting, the Principal Secretary said that the department is committed to safeguarding the interests of the farming community of the region. He exhorted upon the concerned officers to work in close coordination with officers of the extension wing to achieve effective results in the overall working of the department.

Shailendra highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in the system to ensure the smooth distribution of quality pesticides, fertilizers and other inputs among the growers and farmers. He said that the primary objective of the law enforcement wing of the department is to ensure the availability of quality inputs to the farming community of the region, through proper sale outlets.

The Principal Secretary said that 133 fertiliser samples have been drawn, as on date, for 2024-25 while 835 samples had been drawn for 2023-24. He asked the concerned officers to ensure that all the provisions of the Insecticides Act, and fertilizer control order were implemented in letter and spirit.

Among others, the meeting was attended by the Director of Agriculture Kashmir, the Director Law Enforcement, the Deputy Director of Law Enforcement, the Plant Protection Officer of Kashmir, District Law Enforcement officers and other concerned officers of the department.
