Awareness session on Int’l Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held in Bla

Baramulla: An awareness and interactive session was held today to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Organized by the Drugs Control Department, District Baramulla and Tangmarg Chemists and Druggists Association, in collaboration with Government Degree College Tangmarg, the event aimed to strengthen action and cooperation within the Tehsil Administration to achieve a society free of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

The session commenced with a welcome speech delivered by Professor Irfan-ul-Majid, Principal of Government Degree College Tangmarg. This was followed by a keynote address from Dr. Zaffer Ahmad Bhat, Assistant Drugs Controller of District Baramulla. Dr. Bhat emphasized the urgent need for stakeholders to address the issue of drug abuse. He highlighted that the Drug Control Organization of District Baramulla has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against those involved in drug abuse. Additionally, he noted that the UT Government of Jammu and Kashmir has initiated proactive measures, including the establishment of a District Level Monitoring Committee under NCORD, to combat this menace and rehabilitate affected youth.

Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Assistant Drug Controller HQ Kashmir, also spoke at the event, discussing the social evils of drug abuse. He urged chemists and distributors to collaborate in raising awareness about the detrimental effects of drug abuse among the public. Dr. Bhat interacted with the pharmaceutical fraternity of the Tehsil, reinforcing the need for collective efforts in this regard.

Mr. Hillal Ahmad of the Tangmarg Chemists and Druggists Association (TCDA) also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries for their participation. He assured full cooperation and support from TCDA members for future awareness programs.

The awareness and interactive program was well-attended, demonstrating the community’s commitment to tackling the issue of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
