He said that students are being educated about the harmful effects of smoking and have been instructed to share this information with their colleagues, friends, and family.

“We have also authorized the college staff to stop any observed cigarette smoking immediately and inform the college administration. Action will be taken under the COPTA Act against the individuals involved,” he said.

He added that cigarette smoking and bringing cigarettes onto the campus are both banned.

Idrees Manzoor, a college student and NSS volunteer at GDC Kulgam, told Kashmir Images that they organized a rally to raise awareness among the college community about the detrimental effects of smoking.

He said the aim of the program was to spread awareness about the harmful effects of smoking and tobacco, and how they impact families’ health and other aspects of life.

“It is our responsibility to make our college tobacco-free, and we should also work to make our homes tobacco-free zones,” he said.

Irfan, another college student, said the goal of No Tobacco Day was to spread awareness, stop tobacco use, and encourage others to avoid consuming it.
