During the surprise inspection of the consignment, the Gas Cylinders were found under weight. The consignment was seized immediately and a case was booked against the Samba-based supplier. Subsequently, the registered case was compounded for a sum of one lakh rupees as per the relevant sections of the Legal Metrology Act.

The seized cylinders were released to be returned to the supplier for their rectification before supplying them for public distribution with strict directions to avoid such malpractice in future failing which severe action as warranted under the law would be ensured against the erring parties.

Earlier, the directions were issued by Controller Legal Metrology Department J&K, Majid K.A Drabu wherein the field executives of LMD were directed to conduct the special inspection drives against LPG Dealers in terms of the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and LPG Regulation (Supply and Distribution Order) 2000.
