Srinagar police arrests 9 gamblers

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Budgam, Sopore and Baramulla and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesman informed Wednesday.

In Budgam, 35 Bn CRPF stationed at Airport Srinagar intercepted a suspicious vehicle (JK02CJ-2343) driven by Raj Singh, son of Gopi Chand of Aghar Jito Pungath, Udhampur. During the search, a poppy straw-like substance weighing about 2.96 kgs was recovered from it. Police later arrested the accused and seized the vehicle.

In Sopore, at Check Hygam Crossing, 144 capsules of banned drug were recovered from the possession of Aijaz Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone of Krankshivan Sopore. He too was arrested.

In Baramulla, at Kanispora-Singhpora Crossing, Aqib Salam Bhat, son of Abdul Salam; Yasir Ahmad Bhat, son of Fayaz Ahmad, both residents of Sherwani Colony Khawajabagh, and Simranjeet Singh, son of Late Parminder Singh of Singhpora Kalan Baramulla were arrested after 30 grams of contraband brown sugar-like substances was recovered from their possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations.
