Says our adversaries dismayed by the fear of defeat

He made these comments while addressing a workers’ convention in Machil while continuing his election campaign in Kupwara district.

The convention was organized by district president Kupwara and in-charge Lolab Qaiser Jamshed Lone, while provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, treasurer Shammi Oberoi, DDC Sanoullah Khan, Nasir Lone and others were also present on the occasion.

Appealing to the people of Machil not to be afraid of threats, bullying and pressure, Omar Abdullah said that our adversaries have become victims of confusion. “The current parliamentary election is the semi-final in which the people here have to send their representatives to the parliament, then the final will happen in September. Then we will settle all the accounts,” he said.

He said that we have had a deep relationship with remote areas like Machil. “Whenever we get the opportunity to take over the power of this state with your prayers, our whole effort has been to ensure that these remote areas are not left behind. I want them to get their fair share because your problems and problems are more than the city. People remember you in elections and then forget you, but I am personally happy that we have not forgotten you while in power. I will not claim that we have done everything but it is not that we have done nothing, we have done as much as we could. I brought the entire cabinet and held a cabinet meeting here. I sent my ministers to meet you, listen to your problems and solve them, there were many ministers who had not even heard the name of Machil. You had to go to Kupwara for small works at block and tehsil level too, but we established these government offices here, built bridges, Dr Farooq Abdullah as Minister of New and Renewable Energy installed solar systems here, created jobs,” he said.

Omar Abdullah said, “There are two candidates standing here against me, one was a Rajya Sabha member for 6 years, he should show us what work he has done here in 5 years. The other candidate was a minister in the PDP-BJP government for 4 years. This person calls himself the brother of the Prime Minister and today the Prime Minister has been ruling for 10 years. He couldn’t sanction a tunnel for Machil from his elder brother. From Ramban to Kishtwar, 3 tunnels have been built in places where there is no snowfall, and tunnels have been built to reduce the journey by just 5 minutes, could the younger brother of the Prime Minister not have talked about tunnels for Keran, Karnah, Tangdhar and Gurez here?”

Omar Abdullah said that NC will fight for the demands, especially for constructing these tunnels.

Later Omar Abdullah offered Friday prayers at the Central Jama Masjid Kupwara and on this occasion prayed for the upliftment of the Islamic world, security, peace and prosperity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir

He also reached Shah Wali Drugamulla and expressed solidarity with the family members of the late ASI Manzoor Ahmed. On this occasion, prayers and words of forgiveness were offered in favour of the deceased.
