Woman jumps in stream, rescued by people

Sopore: Locals in north Kashmir’s Sopore Tuesday afternoon rescued a woman after she jumped into a stream in a bid to commit suicide.

News agency Kashmir Scroll reported that a 21-year-old woman from Sempora jumped into Phuru Nallah from Mazbug bridge. However, locals present there rushed in pulled her out of the stream and took her to a nearby hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

While confirming it, an official said that they are trying to ascertain under what circumstances the girl tried to end her life.

In an identical incident in Jammu, a 21-year-old woman on Tuesday jumped into river Tawi from a bridge and was rescued by the timely intervention of locals, officials said.

According to police, the woman was walking over the Tawi bridge, connecting Jewel Chowk with Bikram Chowk in the heart of the city, and suddenly jumped into the swollen water body, the officials said.

However, some locals acted swiftly and rescued her. She was seriously injured and rushed to a hospital, they said.

The motive behind her taking the extreme step is not yet known. A case was registered and further investigation is underway, they added.
