Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Awantipora and Baramulla, and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Wednesday.

In Awantipora, he said at a checkpoint at Buchoo Tral, police arrested a drug peddler identified as Yawar Ahmad Wagay, son of Abdul Rashid Wagay of Saimoh Tral. During the search, 20 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Later during the investigation, one more person identified in backward linkage — Mohammad Amin Dar, son of Abdul Gaffar Dar, resident of Kewipora Marhama Sangam was arrested. Around 90 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

At Dutpora Awantipora, one Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat of Dogripora was arrested after 1.140 kgs of cannabis-powder-like substance was recovered from his possession.

In Baramulla, at Sheeri near Eco Park, one Adil Nazir Sofi, son of Nazir Ahmad of Bagna Salamabad , presently residing at PWD Colony Kanthbagh Baramulla, was arrested after 10 grams of contraband heroin-like substances was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for investigations, police said.
