Addresses workers’ meeting in Chanpora constituency

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday asked the people of Srinagar to actively participate in the upcoming Parliament elections to make their voices heard in New Delhi.

This he, according to the NC spokesperson, said while addressing a workers’ meeting at Sanat Nagar in Chanpora constituency. The meeting was convened by In Charge Constituency Chanpora Mushtaq Ahmad Guroo.

Among others Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Political Advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, Provincial Women’s Wing President Er. Sabiya Qadri, YNC Provincial President Salman Ali Sagar, District President Srinagar Peer Afaq Ahmad, and the party’s YNC, Women’s Wing, and Parent body functionaries were also present on the occasion.

Asking Srinagar people to shun apathy for voting, Omar said, “For different reasons, a large section of the people of Srinagar used to refrain from voting. But now when no boycott calls and guns would be around, people should vote. There is nothing that holds you back. You should use this opportunity to send a credible voice to New Delhi. These elections aren’t about daily issues, these elections afford us an opportunity to show Delhi and the world how the actions of 5th August 2019 have fared in Kashmir. If you are happy with the decisions then nothing holds you back from voting BJP and its local subsidiaries. If you aren’t happy with the decisions then you have to come out in large numbers and vote for NC.”

Exhorting the party functionaries to prepare the people of Srinagar for voting, Omar said, “This time the urban apathy for voting would prove dangerous for our future. Our brothers and sisters in Srinagar should not miss the opportunity. Our workers have to shoulder the critical responsibility of helping people shun their inhibitions. I am sure that the voting numbers in the forthcoming elections will far exceed the previous percentage. Our people are well aware of how grave the situation is & how it can worsen if they choose not to vote.”

With respect to the BJP’s local minions joining forces against NC, Omar said, “The reason why BJP’s local teams were forced to join hands against NC is because, we didn’t endorse the actions of August, 5,2019. Contrarily, we have been bitterly opposing the move to revoke Art 370. Had we not been disproving the dilution of our identity, our unique constitutional status, we would have been in the good books of the centre. The reason the center hates us is because of our disapproval of their actions.”
