Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Handwara, Awantipora and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Tuesday.

In Handwara, he said at a checkpoint at Pandithpora Kralgund, one Mohammad Yaseen Malik, son of Bashir Ahmad Malik of Humpora Kralgund was arrested after 45 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

At Y Junction Barsoo Awantipora, one Aijaz Ahmad Sultan, son of Sonnullah Sultan of Wanihama-Payeen Hazratbal Srinagar, was arrested after 18 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

In Kulgam, at Furrah near railway bridge, two persons — Sameer Ahmad Sheikh, son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh of Bangi Dar Anantnag; and Umer Ahmad Lone, son of Mohammad Ramzan Lone of Hangir Yaripora were arrested after 13 grams of brown sugar-like contraband substance was recovered from their possession.

At Mirbazar Chowk one Aadil Ahmad Khan, son of Gull Mohammad Khan of Ashajipora, at present Bangi Dar Anantnag, was arrested with five grams of brown sugar-like contraband substance

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for investigations in all these instances.
