Manipur emerges overall champion in 23rd Sub Jr National Wushu C’ship

Jammu: Manipur lifted the overall championship, while Haryana claimed the second place and J&K bagged overall 3rd place and 2nd in Taolu Boys and Girls in the 23rd Sub Junior National Wushu Championship, organised by the Wushu Association of J&K, under the auspices of Wushu Association of India at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, here.

Prof (Dr) Daud Iqbal Baba, Director of Sports University of Jammu, was the chief guest on the occasion, while Suhail Ahmed, Observer from Wushu Association of India; Vijay Saraf, General Secretary Wushu Association of India; Rajeev Sharma, Member J&K Sports Council; Chander Chander, DySP PCR Jammu and General Secretary J&K Athletics Association, Sunil Sharma, General Secretary Archery Association of J&K; Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo; Bavneet, General Secretary Wushu Association of Jammu and Kashmir and Kirti Dhar, Media Head of Wushu Association of J&K were the guests of honour.

Meanwhile, in Sub Jr Girls Taolu, Manipur lifted the title, J&K emerged 1st runners-up and Tamil Nadu claimed the 2nd runners-up spot, while in Sub Junior Boys Taolu, Manipur won the title, while J&K and Uttar Pradesh bagged 1st and 2nd runners-up positions.

In Sub Junior Girls Sanda, Haryana claimed the 1st place, while second and third place went to Chandigarh and Maharashtra respectively.

In Sub Junior Boys Sanda, Haryana claimed first place while Assam bagged second place and Chandigarh claimed third place.

Speaking on occasion, Dr Daud while lavishing praise on organisers termed the sportspersons as the messengers of peace.

He said such mega sporting events serve the twin purpose of promoting sports and games in the UT and helping youth not to fall prey to drugs and other allied social evils.

He was all praise for Ms Nuzhat Gul for running the affairs of J&K Sports Council in a most befitting manner.

Earlier, Vijay Saraf in his welcome address highlighted the activities of the Association, while later on in the vote of thanks Kuldeep Handoo extended thanks to the Wushu Association of India for providing them the opportunity to hold this mega event.

Handoo lauded the commitment of LG Manoj Sinha led J&K Administration in promoting sports and games and raising sports infra even at the panchayat level.
