Srinagar police arrests 9 gamblers

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Sunday.

He said at a checkpoint at Khanpora Baramulla, police intercepted and later arrested two persons — Azad Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan of Naidkhai, and Aqib Ahmad Gojree, son of Mohammad Ayoub, resident of Bagh-e-Islam Baramulla. Around 140 grams of cannabis was recovered from their possession.

At Bimyar Boniyar (Uri), one Mudasir Rashid Wani, son of Abdul Rashid of Gantamulla was arrested after 40 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession. The bike (JK05C-3436) he was riding at the time of arrest was also seized.

In Handwara, at Champora Crossing, 90 grams of cannabis was recovered from the possession of Manzoor Ahmad Shah, son of Saif Din Shah, and Mohammad Afzal Shah, son of Abdul Gaffar Shah, both residents of Gund Momin Vilgam. They have been arrested.

Cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, the spokesperson said.
