Srinagar: Police in Pulwama have registered a case against a person for spreading rumours through his social media posts, a police spokesperson informed.

He said Police Station Rajpora registered a case (FIR No 23/2024 u/s 505(b)/IPC) against one Sameer Ahmed Parray, son of Abdul Rasheed Parray of Kanikoot CB Nath. Parray had recently uploaded a “false post” on his “fake” Facebook ID “Babar Azam” in which he has uploaded a photo depicting arms and ammunition and has claimed that “a new one from Pulwama has joined militancy”, police said.

It said Parray has been found circulating “incriminating content” on social media “thereby disrupting public peace and tranquility”.

Police also urged the general public to abstain from posting any false content on social media. Strict action will be taken against any person found involved in posting malicious content on the internet, police have warned.
